Have a business idea but not sure if it’s viable? Interested in self-employment but not sure what you should do?
We’ve worked with people from all kinds of backgrounds from freelance consultants to product designers and manufacturers to producers. While there’s lots of information and support out there for entrepreneurs who are ready launch their business or take it to the next level, there is little in the way of support for people who are at the exploratory stage.
Self-employment coaching helps you explore, develop and launch your business idea. Our experienced career coaches have the expertise to help you decide if self-employment is right for you and take steps to turn your self-employment dream into reality.
If you’re unsure about what you might like to do, we can explore options that align with your personal goals and background.
Together, we’ll identify self-employment opportunities that match your values, interests, attributes, transferable skills and preferred work environments.
Once a decision has been made about the best self-employment activity for you, we help you gain clarity on your business idea and develop an action plan.
Where appropriate, we will refer you to professionals who can provide specialist support and guidance.
One of the most important decisions you’ll need to make when you become self-employed is the type of legal structure or legal entity you wish to be. Your decision will depend on a number of factors inculding how much liablity you are willing to assume, your anticipated turnover and potential tax liability, the amount of control you want and whether or not you need finance (ie. grants, business finance, investment etc). It is also important to think about the future needs of your business as this will impact on which legal entity you choose.
There are many different legal structures to choose from but the most common are:
Please note that whilst we can provide you with basic information about business types and legal structures, we cannot advise you on which is the most suitable option for you. We strongly recommend consulting a qualified accountant and legal adviser who can advise you on the best option based on your individual circumstances.

I wasn’t sure if I was ready to work for myself but through career coaching with CareerWorx I discovered that I didn’t have to give up my day job after all. I was able to start my business on the side and have a ‘portfolio career’. So far it’s working out really well and I hope to quit my day job next year to go full time in my own business which is very exciting!
