3 Ways to Boost Happiness at Work

Whether you love your job or hate it, we can all benefit from doing what we can to achieve optimal happiness at work. Even if you love the job you do, there are bound to be times when you can use a lift. Here’s some easy, practical strategies for creating happiness at work:


Mindful communication

How we communicate with others has a profound effect on how they feel about us and how we feel about ourselves. When communicating with others it can be helpful to filter your thoughts before speaking. For example, when having a conversation or in a meeting, consider if what you intend to say is helpful, necessary and factual.
It’s very easy to blurt something out in the heat of the moment or in a pressured situation. If someone puts you on the spot, don’t be afraid to tell them you’ll need to get back to them with a response. It’s far better to give someone a considered, correct response rather than a rushed and possibly inaccurate response.



One of the best team activities is gratitude sharing. At your regular team meetings, you can each share something you’re grateful for that day, week or month. If gratitude’s not your team’s thing, try ‘Things that are going well for me are….’. This is a great way to build upon success and cheer each other on.
Another gratitude activity is to journal your own gratitude by heading each gratitude statement with the date and ‘Today I’m grateful for…’ Try doing this on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday or all three days if you can manage it. Your gratitude statements don’t need to be epic. They can be as simple as ‘Today I’m grateful for delicious, brain-boosting espresso coffee!’.


Happiness wall

If your workplace doesn’t already have a Happiness Wall – make one! (even if you happen to work from home) It’s such a simple way to inject happiness into your daily work life. Load it up with happy snaps, thank you cards from customers, happiness quotes, awards, news articles – anything that inspires joy and gratitude.
When your happiness wall gets too crowded consider rotating items on your Happiness Wall so the contents remain fresh and inspiring.
